Russia has expressed fears that a civil war will break out in Afghanistan, following the latest developments in the country. Today, Monday, the envoy of the Russian president, director of the second Asian department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Zamir Kabulov, expressed his country’s hope that the weapons left by US forces in Afghanistan and falls into the hands of the Taliban are not used in a possible civil war.
“I hope the weapons are kept, and not used in a future civil war, which is the war that has stopped at the moment, thank God, “Kabulov said, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.
He also added: “We have to think about the fate of these weapons in future”.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had previously claimed that the United States had left behind many advanced weapons in Afghanistan.
He also explained that “some of these weapons are highly accurate and include portable air defense systems and anti-tank guided missiles.”
Interestingly, although Washington has confirmed more than once that it does not want to see any American equipment in the hands of elements of the movement, many American reports have indicated that equipment, weapons, and even tanks and helicopters have been left behind by the Afghan forces. in in the hands of the Taliban, who took control of the capital, in the middle of this month (August 2021).
