Nadal beats Dutch Van de Zandscholp in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon

LONDON: Rafael Nadal has taken another step towards combining four Grand Slam titles in one season when he booked his spot in the Wimbledon quarter-finals on Monday with a 6-4 6-2 7-6 win over Dutchman Botique van de Zandscholp. Nadal has won two of his 22 Grand Slam titles in the All England Club but entered the tournament questyear after winning the Australian Open and the French Open in a year for the first time in his career. If Nadal wins his third Wimbledon title and his first since 2010, the US Open title will be the first to collect Grand Slam titles. in a season since Australian Rod Laver in 1969. Nadal beat his 21st opponent in ranking five times at Center Court on Monday and dominated the game from start to finish to decide his qualification in two hours and 21 minutes. Nadal secured the match opportunity with a 5-3 lead in the third set, but the 36-year-old lost his serve before completing the tiebreak job. Nadal plays American 11th-seeded Taylor Fritz for a place in Friday’s semifinals. (Reuters)
