Naga Munchetty, 49, has spoken out on Twitter after she was unable to purchase a bottle of wine after leaving her ID at home. The BBC Breakfast host was left red-faced after she claimed a supermarket attendant turned her away, after failing to be able to prove her age.

Naga typed in view of her 254,000 followers: “Am winning at life in a small way this morning…
“Just been refused to be sold a bottle of wine at the local supermarket by the lovely lady at the till because I had no I.D. YES!”
Fellow BBC host Sophie Raworth, 52, said she was also recently asked for a form of identification while trying to purchase alcohol.
She responded: “I got ‘carded’ recently to see if I was over 25 in a supermarket. I was wearing a mask and a hat to be fair. But still.”

While fans also commented with their experiences of being ID’d despite being many years above the UK’s legal drinking age of 18.
One said: “This happened to me not so long ago & when I actually said I was thrilled at the compliment the young lad serving said, ‘Yeah it’s only cos of your mask, take it off you’d probably be walking away with the wine’. Talk about crashing & burning…” (sic)
Another replied: “That’s brilliant @TVNaga01, I can fully understand why you had to show your ID! I can beat you though, I had to show my driving licence before the Amazon courier would hand over my bottle of malt whisky, (I’m 73)!”
A third commented: “Happened to me… I was 49 at the time!! Sort of flattered until I queried it, the guy said, ‘It’s not about what you look like it’s just a random check’. I asked what ID as hadn’t needed it to pop to the local shop before & he said a driving licence, ‘So I can buy wine if I’m driving?’.”(sic)

This scheme encourages anyone who is over 18 but looks under 25 to carry an acceptable ID when they want to buy alcohol.
Earlier this week, BBC Breakfast viewers were confused when Naga and her co-host Charlie Stayt were absent from hosting duties.
The presenting duo usually hosts the early morning programme together towards the end of the week, however yesterday the show was fronted by Ben Thompson and Sally Nugent.

However, fans on social media could not resist speculating where Naga and Charlie had gone.
On Twitter, one wrote: “Where is Naga and Charlie?”
A second joked: “So have Charlie and Naga got the boot from @BBCBreakfast?”
Another added: “Will Naga be on tomorrow morning?”
Furthermore, a fourth asked: “On BBC Breakfast with Sally Nugent and Ben Thompson are the regular presenters busy elsewhere?”
Meanwhile, the BBC are yet to confirm when the hosts will appear on the show next.
