Nancy Dell’Olio, 59, has said England have a greater chance of success under Gareth Southgate than her ex Sven-Göran Eriksson, 73, during this year’s European Football Championship, due to the latest generation of WAGs not being a distraction for players. The Italian lawyer lavished praise on the new breed of “intellectual” partners who will be attending the Euros 2020.
I tried to warn some of them
Nancy claimed she had warned footballers other halves during her era, including Victoria Beckham, Cheryl Tweedy and Elen Rivas about keeping a low profile while in German town Baden Baden for the 2006 World Cup, but was simply ignored by them.
She said: “I tried to warn some of them about their behaviour because they were distracting the players.
“The press were not talking about the wives and girlfriends of any other of the teams. I suggested they have to be more careful but they just did whatever they wanted.”
The 59-year-old insisted she did not spend much time with the glamorous posse of WAGS but instead preferred to remain with her own group of friends.

She continued: “I was not involved in that scene, despite the rumours.
“We were friends but I was doing my own thing with my other friends who were with me. I also spent a few days in Milan,” she added to Daily Mail.
Nancy also claimed the WAGs of her era revelled in the attention as it was their “moment of celebrity”.

The current WAGS are a far cry from the popstars and models seen on the arms of their footballer beaus of the early 2000s.
As a lawyer, Nancy said it is more “appropriate” that players are now with more “contemporary” women who are educated and have separate careers.
She added that the wives and girlfriends at Baden Baden “went too far” and it probably would not happen again.
Nancy dated former England manager Sven from the late 1990s to 2007, when the pair went their separate ways.

Following her split from Sven, Nancy was reportedly paid £2 million by the sports manager.
She is thought to have later moved into a £4 million property in London.
However, it was later reported her landlord wanted £20,000 in rent.
Nancy was keen to distance herself from her well-known ex after their divorce, and often gets annoyed when people say she is only “famous” because of him.
She told The Guardian: “Someone will say, ‘[You’re famous because] you came here with him. I’ll say, ‘Yes, I came here with Eriksson because he was the manager, but the press were interested in him because of me, not because of him!’
“Now they don’t talk about him in years!” she added.
The former WAG professes to no longer keep up with Sven’s life and they do not speak often.
“It would be too upsetting after all the disaster he did,” she said.
