Best Netflix movies and shows coming in June 2021: Teen movies and shows

June is here, Netflix Lifers, and with it is coming some excellent Netflix movies and shows for teens and young adults to enjoy. While we’ll have to wait to get our fright on in July when the teen movie series Fear Street drops, there’s plenty in June to tied thrill-seekers over including Elite season 4 and the short stories series dropping in the lead up to the new season.

There’s also this generation’s Sailor Moon iteration to indulge in, bringing fans of the ’90s manga and anime series into the Dream Arc that pits the Sailor Guardians against a killer circus troupe,  not to mention a vampire film based on a hit YA novel series, the first season of Sweet Tooth for our fantasy lovers, and the ever present coming-of-age story.

Essentially, there’s a little something for everybody here with a couple of throwback films for a bit of nostalgia. So, your queue is certain to be filled this month with enough content to fill your heart, make you laugh, boil your blood, and inspire you whether you choose an action flick, a sports drama, or a supernatural thrill-o-rama.

So, let’s kick off this list! Starting with a peek at what Elite season 4 has in store for fans of the hit Spanish original series.

Teen shows on Netflix: Elite season 4

New school year, new set of problems. Las Encinas has welcomed a director whose mission is bringing the institute back on track. It’s his belief that the student body has run amok for too long and such behavior won’t be happening on his watch. Though the director may want to look a little closer to home if he’s itching to roost out trouble.

His three children certainly aren’t saints, and they’re not above causing a little mayhem to get what they want. No isn’t a closed door to them, it’s a challenge. The students of Las Encinas better watch out because if they thought their friendships would remain untested this year, they’re sadly mistaken.

Elite season 4 will be available to stream on June 18.

Teen shows on Netflix: Elite Short Stories

In the lead-up to the Elite season 4 premiere, Netflix will be dropping short stories every day filling in what happened with Las Encinas crew after the season 3 finale. According to Elite Daily, this episodic series will go as follows:

  • June 14 – “Guzman + Caye + Rebe”: Devoted to the trio’s magic mushroom trip and the aftermath of season 3 from their perspective.
  • June 15 – “Nadia + Guzman”: Checks in on how the couple are doing with their long-distance relationship as Nadia has moved to New York City.
  • June 16 – “Omar + Ander + Alexis”: Explores how Ander’s diagnosis has affected his relationship with Omar and his bond with Alexis.
  • June 17 – “Carla + Samuel”:  Centered on their relationship and Carla’s choice to study abroad.

Each short story group consists of three episodes.

Elite Short Stories will begin streaming June 14.

Teen movies on Netflix: Flipped

Flipped is a romcom drama, based on the book of the same name by Wendelin Van Draanen. The film, set in the late ’50s and early ’60s, tells the story of Bryce Loski and Julianna Baker.

The two have been next-door neighbors since elementary school but while Juli immediately took to Bryce, he avoided her at all costs. In middle school, the situation is much the same until Bryce begins to develop unexpected feelings for Juli. It makes him question everything he once thought about her.

His growing feelings, however, doesn’t change their strained relationship. Though Bryce is likely to find that actually talking to Juli could open his eyes to what he’s been missing out on all these years.

Flipped will be available to stream on June 1.

Teen movies on Netflix: Stand by Me

It’s been almost 35 years since Stand by Me, a coming-of-age story based on the novella The Body by Stephen King, hit theaters in August 1986. The film stars Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, and Jerry O’Connell as a band of friends in search of a missing boy’s body.

Gordie Lachance, a 12-year-old who feels neglected and unseen by his parents since the death of his brother Denny, convinces his friends to traverse the Oregon woods to find this missing boy. Along the way, they learn about themselves, their friendship, and how far they’ll go to make something right.

Stand by Me will be available to stream on June 1.

Teen movies on Netflix: Abduction

Time certainly flies. Abduction starring Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins came out nearly a decade ago in September 2011. The action thriller pits Lautner’s Nathan Harper against a shadowy organization after the murder of his parents…or should we say his guardians?

Their deaths usher in a wave of questions revolving around who he actually is as Nathan has recently found out his life has been a lie. Unfortunately, in the worst turn of events ever, his project partner Karen Murphy gets dragged into the mix by virtue of bearing witness to the mayhem.

Now forced to run for their lives, the two must play a dangerous game of cat and mouse to get the answers Nathan so desperately wants and keep Karen safe.

Abduction will be available to stream on June 1.

The Sailor Moon Eternal movie brings fans into the manga’s Dream Arc as a total solar eclipse has become the main event in Tokyo. This time of wonder, however, is hijacked by the Dead Moon Circus who are intent on stealing the Legendary Silver Crystal, taking over the Earth, and plunging the universe into darkness.

Together the Sailor Guardians must stop this troupe before it’s too late. There’s also the mystery surrounding Pegasus and the maiden he claims can break the seal on the Golden Crystal. With the clock ticking, this fierce group of protectors must push through nightmarish situations if they have any chance of keeping the world safe.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie will be available to stream on June 3.

Teen shows on Netflix: Sweet Tooth season 1

In the Sweet Tooth universe, based on the DC comics of the same name, hybrid babies part human and part animal walk the land.

Gus, a young boy who is a deer hybrid, has lived his life relatively sheltered until the safety he’d once had is shattered by people hunting kids like him. Forced out of hiding he befriends Tommy Jepperd, the man who saved his life, and together they wander the land looking for a safe haven for hybrids.

Along the way, Gus learns about the network of hybrids who protect and take care of their own, carving out a place in the world for kids like themselves. He decides that’s what he wants to do as well no matter how dangerous such a position is for anyone let alone a child.

Sweet Tooth season 1 will be available to stream on June 4.

Teen movies on Netflix: Vampire Academy

Based on the book series by Richelle Mead, Vampire Academy follows Rose Hathaway. She is a Dhampir, a human-vampire mix, whose sworn duty is to protect the Moroi.

In Rose’s world, there are two kinds of vampires. The peaceful Moroi whose mortality leaves them vulnerable to attack. Then there are the Strigoi, vampires who have succumbed to bloodlust and whose immortality marks them as a threat to the Moroi.

It’s Rose’s job to protect her best friend, Lissa Dragomir, and ensure her royal bloodline remains intact. Still, she is in training herself and the danger Rose seeks to keep Lissa from is closer than they may be prepared for.

Vampire Academy will be available to stream on June 7.

Teen movies on Netflix: Skater Girl

When a woman named Jessica comes to a small village in Rajasthan, it changes Prerna’s life. Jessica’s intent is to learn more about her late father’s childhood but she winds up building a skate park to support the interest in skateboarding the kids and teens in the village have begun to foster.

Prerna is one such teen who falls in love with the sport, setting loose dreams inside herself that she’d been keeping hidden. However, with the freedom of skateboarding comes a tension between her and her family.

In their minds, skateboarding is for boys and to Prerna it’s a means of not only expressing herself but of being a part of a community of people who love the sport. Pursuing her passion requires defying their wishes but Prerna’s newfound love is one she refuses to quit.

Skater Girl will be available to stream on June 11.

When Ali’s father passes, he sets on a quest to find his mother. He knows she’s in New York, so he sets his sights on the city and heads out with a plan that quickly gets washed away by the hustle, the bustle, and the expense of NYC.

Together with four women who take him in, he discovers more than his estranged mom. Ali begins to come into his own through the love and connection he finds unexpectedly through the people he meets and comes to know.

Ali & Ratu Ratu Queens will be available to stream on June 17.

Teen shows on Netflix: The A List season 2

The A List returns with a cover-up that needs to be unraveled. Mia knows that the events that unfolded on Peregrine Island couldn’t have possibly been a hallucination, but she’s being convinced otherwise.

Determined to get to the bottom of what she witnessed, Mia–along with Dev, Petal, Alex, and others who refuse to believe what they’re being told–set off to find their missing camp members.

As they learn more about what happened, they’ll find that the truth is stranger than fiction and nothing is as it appears.

The A List season 2 will be available to stream on June 25.
