Kingdom is arguably one of the best zombie shows out there today—and before fans get to sink their teeth into Kingdom season 3, they will get to unravel the mysteries of the plague that brings people back to life in the special feature Kingdom: Ashin of the North. Many Netflix subscribers are eager to know more about the project before it releases.
The South Korean series is a period political/horror drama that follows a prince and a band of other survivors who try to control the outbreak of a mysterious plague that brings the dead back to life, while the country is experiencing the aftermath of a brutal war with Japan. There is also turmoil within the royal family, and a conspiracy unfolds in a sinister plot to steal the throne.
The first two chapters of the Netflix original series have outstanding scores on Rotten Tomatoes and The New York Times called Kingdom one of the best international shows of 2020. Now the next installment in the franchise set to arrive on the streaming service will be a special feature titled Kingdom: Ashin of the North.
Kim Seong-hun, who oversaw Kingdom season 2 and directed season 1, is teaming up once again with writer Kim Eun-hee to bring fans Kingdom: Ashin of The North. Below is everything Netflix subscribers should know about this upcoming horror flick.

Jun Ji-hyun will star in Kingdom: Ashin of the North as Ashin. She made a brief cameo during the final moments of Kingdom season 2. Park Byung-eun, who played Royal Commandery Min Chi-rok in Kingdom season 2, has also been confirmed as part of the cast.
The rest of the special’s players are unknown at this time, but it’s safe to say they will be a talented group of individuals who should be a welcome addition to the Kingdom franchise.
Kingdom: Ashin of the North synopsis
Kingdom: Ashin of the North will act as a sidequel to Kingdom season 2 while also playing out as the origin story of the mysterious character Lee Chang and his colleagues encountered within the rundown, empty village they found in the north while searching for the origins of the plague. Kingdom: Ashin of the North is a sidequel from Kingdom season two and a backstory about the mysterious character Lee Chang’s group encountered on their journey north to discover the origins of the infected.
The surprising appearance of Gianna Jun in the role of Ashin at the end of Kingdom season two intrigued audiences. In this eagerly anticipated bonus story, Jun as Ashin will unveil the mystery behind her identity.
Park Byung-eun, who made a lasting impression in Kingdom season two as the head of the Royal Commandery Min Chi-rok, is also confirmed to star. The new story will detail what had happened to Ashin in the past in the northern region and how the two characters’ fates intertwined.
