What are the best Sterek moments on Teen Wolf?

During their time together on Teen Wolf, stars Dylan O’Brien and Tyler Hoechlin managed to captivate viewers through their work as Stiles and Derek. While complete opposites in every way, Stiles and Derek managed to form an unforgettable bond through the show, and the chemistry the characters have in each of their scenes helped breathe life into the ship that is Sterek.

With their back and forth banter and the unique bond shared between the duo, Stiles and Derek took the Teen Wolf fandom by storm in becoming one of the show’s popular duos across the show’s six seasons.

Whether you were a casual shipper or just someone who appreciated the incredible way in which Hoechlin and O’Brien were able to play off one another on-screen (often without needing to exchange much dialogue at all), there is no denying that Sterek scenes were often some of the best scenes in an episode.

In celebration of Sterek and the 10 year anniversary of Teen Wolf, we’re counting down the duo’s greatest moments on the show with a look at seven unforgettable Sterek scenes that will live rent-free in our hearts for years to come.

Setting the Stage: With Scott taken captive by Kate, it’s an all-hands-on-deck type situation which means that recently turned beta Liam is about to be thrown into the deep end. The only issue is that he’s still working on controlling his abilities and the looming full moon is only making matters worse.

Luckily, Derek has a “special” Hale family talisman with him that has been used by the family for generations to “help betas control themselves under the full moon.” The only problem is that the talisman possesses no supernatural powers – which Stiles quickly picks up on and decides to plays along with Derek’s plan.

Why this Sterek Moment is One for the Books: One of the things that I have always enjoyed most about Derek and Stiles is the incredible chemistry they have when in any given scene. They’re at their best when getting to play off the comedic side of things and the way in which Derek literally uses his body language alone to urge Stiles into helping him with his ploy shows how far the duo came from the day they first met.

Best Sterek moments: The Perfect Break-In

Setting the Stage: After Isaac revealed the location of where Boyd and Erica were being held by the alpha pack, Derek calls upon Stiles, Scott and Peter to help devise a plan to break in to rescue the duo.

With the blueprints to the old bank where they’re being held in hand, Stiles quickly walks through the best plan for breaking into the bank (a plan inspired by a heist pulled off back in the day by some bank robbers). As Stiles reveals, the key to the success of the plan is breaking through the cement which required a special drill. However, Derek has his own plan and implies that he’ll use his fist to break through the cement which prompts Stiles to question his strength – a move he quickly regrets.

Why this Sterek Moment is One for the Books: What is not to love about this beloved Sterek moment! Only Stiles would be crazy enough to question Derek’s strength and he should have known that Derek would happily prove his muscles were for more than show.

The comedic timing and follow-through by Dylan O’Brien put the moment over the top (“Ah, he can do it…”) and that little moment towards the end of the exchange where Stiles for a moment believes Derek’s wanted him to accompany him on the excursion over Scott, was the cherry on top!

Best Sterek moments: The Perfect Pair

Setting the Stage: With Matt’s involvement in the Kanima killing streak finally revealed, he manages to trap Stiles, Scott, and Sheriff Stilinski in the police station. When Derek arrives, there is a glimmer of hope but then Jackson uses his claws to paralyze him leaving Derek helplessly lying on the floor.

As Matt goes on his little rant about how much he’s learned about the supernatural world in Beacon Hills, he calls out Stiles who jabs back that he’s actually an abdominal snowman which leads to Jackson scratching him too and sending him to the ground on top of Derek – much to Derek’s displeasure.

Why this Sterek Moment is One for the Books: It’s not every day that the writers on a show address their fandom’s vocalness and love for any two given characters, but that was exactly what they did with this all-too-short Sterek moment.

Matt’s comment about Derek and Stiles making a pretty good pair was a perfect nod to all the Sterek shippers out there. Oh, and how could we forget the incredible scenes that followed as the two laid around waiting for the effect of Jackson’s scratch to wear off, going back and forth with their witty banter that perfectly showcased their incredible dynamic.

Best Sterek moments: Biting the Bullet

Setting the Stage: After being shot by a wolfsbane-laced bullet, Derek comes running to Scott for help. However, the only way of knowing what kind of bullet and wolfsbane was used by the Argents is for Scott to do some sleuthing at the Argent’s home, leaving Stiles on the hook to tend to Derek in his weakened state.

As they await Scott’s call, Stiles is forced to kill time with Derek in his beloved Jeep before finally helping him into the vet’s where he was this close to following through with Derek’s order to amputate his arm. Luckily, Scott swept in just in time to help save the day.

Why this Sterek Moment is One for the Books: This particular moment was really the first time that we got to witness the incredible chemistry shared by Tyler Hoechlin and Dylan O’Brien unfold in an episode as it was the first time Derek and Stiles shared the same scenes for an extended window of time – mostly on their own.

It was really in this episode that the Sterek ship took off as fans took in the countless memorable moments the episode brought including the now-iconic catchphrase “Start the car or I’m going to rip your throat out… with my teeth.” How could you not love those jeep scenes!

Best Sterek moments: Don’t Let Me Go

Setting the Stage: With the search for the bestiary underway, time is of the utmost importance but that doesn’t stop Derek and Erica from confronting Stiles by the school’s pool. Their interrogation of poor Stiles is cut short, though, when the Kanima rears his ugly head, attacks Erica and cuts Derek leaving him immobilized and Stiles to play hero.

In typical Stiles fashion, his rescue attempt goes awry as he drops his cell phone in the process of calling for help, sending a paralyzed Derek plunging into the pool when he goes to retrieve it.

Rather than calling for help and going for his cell phone, Stiles dives in to save Derek which leads the duo to discover the Kanima’s fear of water. Unable to call for help, Stiles must keep both Derek and himself afloat – which he does for more than two hours until Scott arrives.

Why this Sterek Moment is One for the Books: Let’s be honest, we all were shocked when Derek chose to shield Stiles over Erica and to see Stiles play hero and keep Derek from drowning due to his paralysis. The two just seem to play off of one another better when the stakes are high and emotions are running high.

In these moments, Stiles’s sarcastic ways and Derek’s matter-of-fact outlook perfectly complement one another in allowing the two characters to shine and give Sterek shippers some unforgettable scenes.

Best Sterek moments: Derek’s Got Moves

Setting the Stage: Needing to break into his dad’s office, Derek and Stiles must come up with a plan to distract the deputy at the sheriff office’s front desk so that Stiles can make it into the office.

When Derek suggests being the distraction needed to allow Stiles to sneak his way into his dad’s office, Stiles is immediately thrown off unsure of how Derek could distract the deputy without alerting suspicion (after all he was only recently exonerated). After some back and forth banter, Derek makes his way to the front desk and, much to Stiles’ dismay, is able to distract the deputy via flirtation.

Why this Sterek Moment is One for the Books: Where do I even begin! Okay, let’s start with the incredible bit in the jeep because watching Derek and Stiles go back and forth with one another in discussing their plan is one of my favorite moments ever. First, we have the perfectly timed moment where Stiles holds Derek back which leads to a priceless exchange that shows off the duo’s chemistry (it’s not often that a pair can play off of one another using just their facial expressions and body language).

Then we move into the segment where Stiles hilariously mocks Derek’s plan to distract the deputy only to be stunned by his ability to actually distract the deputy using his charm and smoothness. It was a nearly untoppable scene and likely would have made it to No. 1 was it not for our favorite cousin.

Best Sterek moments: My Cousin Miguel

Setting the Stage: Needing Stiles’ help in tracing the texts received the night of the school attack, Derek forcefully requests Stiles’ assistance. The only problem is that Stiles’ tech skills aren’t good enough to track down the sender. Enter Danny.

After being tricked into coming over to Stiles’ house to “study,” Stiles attempts to persuade Danny into helping him trace the texts but Danny is a bit reluctant to lend his own cyber skills in order to get to the bottom of things.

While trying to convince Danny to help him, Derek catches Danny’s eye leading him to question who the mystery man sitting in the corner is. Rather than telling Danny the truth, Stiles instead calls Derek his cousin Miguel.

Seeing Danny’s apparent interest in Derek when he goes to change his blood stained shirt, Stiles uses Derek as the leverage needed to get him to trace the texts.

Why this Sterek Moment is One for the Books: Was there ever any doubt that the infamous Cousin Miguel scene would manage to secure the No.1 spot on our best Sterek moments countdown? This scene could literally not have been written or acted any better and stands not only as the greatest Sterek moment but as one of the most memorable scenes in Teen Wolf history.

Tyler Hoechlin has a great way with being able to use his body language and facial expressions to carry scenes and his delivery is key to making this scene work. The other portion of the winning formula is the way in which Stiles uses his control in the situation to egg Derek on in order to basically exploit his looks to get Danny to help them trace the texts.

If the Cousin Miguel scene isn’t your favorite Sterek moment, it might be time to reevaluate your standards because there is nothing better than this iconic moment!

Best Sterek moments: Miguel 2.0

Setting the Stage: After being regressed back to his teenage self by Kate, Scott and his pack had to race to find a way to restore Derek to his normal self. As they worked to get to fix the problem and reverse Kate’s magic, Stiles is tasked with babysitting Derek at Scott’s house. The only problem is that he never expected Scott’s dad to be waiting in the dining room with takeout when they arrived. Before Derek can say his name, Stiles introduces him as his Cousin Miguel giving fans a nice nod to Season 1’s beloved scene.

Why this Sterek Moment is One for the Books: How could we include the Cousin Miguel scene as our top Sterek moment and not also include the moment in which the bit came full circle?! While far from as great as the original scene (how could it be without good old Hoechlin not in it), the scene was perfect in its own way.
