However, in response, one fan said the show “didn’t do it” for them.

They penned: “Sorry no it didn’t do it for me.

“Lovely idea for the occasional special, exploring some of our beautiful gardens.

“But when we campaigned for the full hour programme we were hoping for lots more practical gardening.

“It’s become another glorified magazine prog.”

Monty was quick to come back to the viewer, pointing out how “you will never please everyone”.

He wrote: “GW has always been a magazine programme since it’s inception. (sic)

“You will never please everyone but it seems the vast majority like the way we have responded to the very real challenge of doubling our output.”

When Gardeners’ World first began, it only ran for 30 minutes.

Then in 2016, executive producer Paolo Proto extended the programme to one hour.

Viewers were mixed in response to Monty’s reply about the format of the show.

One penned: “I thought it was just me.

“Found it a bit boring last night to be honest and would like more practical tips rather than skipping off to someone else talking about how wonderful it is that they’ve got a greenhouse in their spare room.”

However, others defended the gardening show, agreeing with the broadcaster.

Another follower wrote: “The viewer’s video sections have really added an interesting extra dimension.”

While a third added: “Try it. Day after day, week after week.

“Try to think up something new and for a fully hour yet! (sic)

“I run a large FB group and have to think up stuff to keep everyone happy. Every day 7 days a week no time off while others just watch.”

Monty will be back presenting when the series returns to BBC Two this Friday evening.
