Israel’s new defense minister, Yoav Gallant, said on Sunday that Iran is seeking to “acquire nuclear weapons.”
The minister, who took up his duties today in a new government led by Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged to fight what it called “terrorism” and to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, according to the “Jerusalem Post” newspaper.
He also stressed that strict measures will be taken regarding the firing of rockets from the Gaza Strip at Israel.
Interestingly, Israeli prime minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday the appointment of Yoav Gallant as defense minister.
Galant (64), former commander of the Southern Front, is considered a staunch supporter of Netanyahu, and has also held various ministerial positions in the previous governments he led.
