New Prime Minister Li Qiang Approved by Chinese Parliament

Today, the Chinese parliament approved the appointment of Li Qiang as new prime minister for a five-year term, after Chiang obtained 2,936 votes in favor, three against, and eight abstentions.

Li Qiang will replace outgoing Prime Minister Li Keqiang, who served two five-year terms.

Chinese President Xi Jinping had today named Li Qiang, 63, as prime minister to take over management of the world’s second largest economy.

In a related context, the National People’s Congress of China approved the appointment of Zhang Yuxia and He Weidong as vice chairmen of the country’s Central Military Commission, and they were appointed by the President of China, Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, in addition to the approval of Li Shang.Fu, Liu Zhenli, Miao Hua and Zhang Shengmin are committee members.
