In a statement on Friday, the French Defense Ministry warned that “ISIS in Iraq and Syria has resurfaced.”
The ministry said, “ISIS is defeated geographically, but it can move.”
The ministry stated that “France’s goal in “leading coalition naval operations is to permanently dismantle ISIS.”.
The UK Defense Department announced Thursday that it had launched multiple air strikes against ISIS in northern Iraq last month as part of a ten-day coordinated operation with Iraqi ground forces.
The ministry added that Iraqi security forces were evicting ISIS forces from the Makhmour Mountains southwest of Erbil while Royal Air Force planes and other coalition aircraft carried out an air strike during the operation.
The decision to attack was made on March 22nd, when it was confirmed that ISIS troops were in a network of caves in the Makhmour Mountains.
Three RAF typhoon fighters carried out the attack with storm shadow missiles.
In addition, the UK Department of Defense confirmed that the subsequent follow-up confirmed the success of the strike.
British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said in turn: “The British armed forces, together with our Iraqi partners and coalition forces, continue to drive ISIS terrorists out of the areas where they hide. ”
“The UK is determined to defeat ISIS. This operation will prevent the terrorist group and its toxic ideology from regaining a foothold in Iraq and reducing their ability to coordinate attacks around the world, “he added.
