Pending Series on Netflix: Renewed or Cancelled?
Netflix has launched many series. Some are renewed and some are cancelled, but there is also a third group. Series that remain in limbo and it is not clear whether a new season will be released or if the plug will be pulled. We have compiled a list of the biggest pending series.
Strikes are causing even more uncertainty
The current uncertainty surrounding so many big series is also due to the ongoing strikes in the United States. All productions are on hold due to the writer’s strikes, which the actors have joined. As long as this is the case, little progress will be made, including in terms of negotiations. For some series, it has even been officially announced that a decision will only be made after the strikes. This increases the likelihood of cancellation, especially for American series.

Barbarians (Season 3)
The historical series depicting the battle between the Germans and the Romans has had two seasons. The reviews were mixed, but the viewership was good for Barbarians. There were early rumors of a renewal, but Netflix has not yet confirmed this.
Beef (Season 2)
After its release, Beef received great acclaim and the production company A24 Television has stated that it can return in two ways: as an ongoing story or as an anthology series. However, there has been no official renewal.
Black Summer (Season 3)
This spin-off of Z Nation has had two seasons, with the most recent one airing in the summer of 2021. Since then, there has been silence, indicating that the Black Summer series may have been canceled without an official announcement.
Far From Home (Season 2)
This South African series follows a teenager with financial problems who enters a world of luxury after winning a prestigious scholarship to an exclusive school. It is reminiscent of Élite. While the Spanish series is already heading towards its 8th season, there has been no news about this South African series.
Glamorous (Season 2)
Starring Kim Cattrall and Miss Benny, Glamorous was highly anticipated, but since its release in June, there has been eerie silence. The series also did not make it to the top lists.
Gymnastics Academy: A Second Chance! (Season 2)
This family drama series premiered exactly one year ago, but there has been no news since then. The series is not concluded, but a sequel does not seem to be in the works.
In From the Cold (Season 2)
This action-packed series has the potential to go on for many years. It revolves around a former Russian spy who must balance her new family life with her skills as a shape-shifter in the fight against a treacherous enemy. The series premiered on Netflix in January 2022, but it has remained silent since then.
Kings of Jo’Burg (Season 3)
Recently, Netflix shared a list of series produced in South Africa, but a new season of Kings of Jo’Burg was not included, despite the second season airing in January. It seems to be the end, but no final decision has been announced.
Money Heist: Korea (Season 2)
While the original Spanish series La Casa de Papel was a huge success, the remake in South Korea has remained quiet. It may have performed well enough in the Asian market, but a sequel has not been announced. A spin-off of La Casa de Papel, Berlin is currently in development.
Russian Doll (Season 3)
Will we see Natasha Lyonne as Nadia one more time? The creators of Russian Doll have already expressed their plans to make three seasons. The second season came as a surprise in April 2022, without any prior announcement. Who knows if there will be a third season?
Shadow and Bone (Season 3)
The biggest series on this list is undoubtedly Shadow and Bone. The fantasy world had an excellent start, but the second season was not received as well. Based on the viewership, the series may be at risk of cancellation. However, Netflix has stated that a decision will only be made after the strikes.
Survival of the Thickest (Season 2)
Michelle Buteau created and starred in this series. With its release during the strikes, it will definitely be a waiting game until everything is resolved.
Sweet Magnolias (Season 4)
Romantic drama series perform exceptionally well on Netflix, and Sweet Magnolias is no exception. However, it always takes a long time for a decision to be made regarding a new season. The third season had a fairly conclusive ending, so this time it will truly be suspenseful. No decision has been made yet.
Unstable (Season 2)
Rob Lowe’s comedy series debuted earlier this year, and there were reports that production for a sequel had already begun. However, there has been no official green light, and everything has been put on hold due to the strikes.
