Newtown wins HS state title with anniversary of Sandy Hook shootings

Seven years after more than two dozen people, 20 of them children, died in a mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., The city’s high school won a state football championship in the final game of the title.

Newtown beat Darien 13-7 on Saturday as they passed Jack Street to Riley Ward.

Newtown continues to process the events of December 14, 2012, when a police officer was identified by police as Adam Lanza shot 20 students and six adult workers at Sandy Hook Elementary School before killing himself. Lanza killed his mother before going to Sandy Hook.

The killings have become a flashpoint for discussion about the Second Amendment and gun ownership rights in the United States.
