Nigeria reach the round of 16 after a 3-1 victory over Sudan

Garoua (Cameroon): Nigeria qualified for the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations after using three defensive errors to beat Sudan 3-1 in Group D on Saturday. Nigeria lead the group with six points, having won 1-0 against Egypt in their first game. Sudan’s equilibrium stopped at some point in two games, after a goalless draw with Guinea-Bissau, and had to beat Egypt in the last game to keep his hopes of qualification. Samuel Chukwueze led Nigeria in lead after just three minutes and Tayo Onyi added the second goal at halftime. Moses Simon struck 3-0 after a 36-second break, while Wali El Din Khader scored Sudan’s penalty in the 70th minute. Later in the day, Egypt played for Guinea-Bissau. (Reuters)
