A North Carolina school assistant was fired on Monday after being caught filming a student smacking the body. The incident took place at Vance County Middle School in Henderson, now investigators are trying to determine if they will lay criminal charges against the former MP.
According to ABC News, in Vance County, North Carolina, Sheriff Curtis Brame said the deputy’s dismissal was “effective immediately”. He continued to say, “When we saw the video for the first time … we were shocked. I don’t expect my assistant or any other assistant, or law enforcement in North Carolina , performs its duties in this way. “
The member’s name has not been released. However, in the video, you can see him snapping the child not once, but twice in the ground, then he continues to drag the child as he leaves the frame of the camera.
Sheriff Brame said that after viewing the footage, he initially put the assistant on paid leave. He then contacted the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to initiate an investigation into the use of force.
Vance County District Attorney Mike Waters said, “This is just an amazing type of incident. I see no justification at this stage for the behavior and actions of this officer. “
The student’s name, which has not been released, was reportedly slightly injured.
District attorney Waters said he expects to make a decision later this week on whether the former member will be charged or whether the case will be referred to a grand jury.
