With the start of military exercises between the United States and South Korea looming, North Korea tested two strategic cruise missiles from a submarine on Sunday, the Korean Central News Agency reported on Monday.
Interestingly, the term strategic is often used to describe nuclear weapons.
The launch tested operations offensive of submarine units that are part of North Korea’s nuclear deterrent.

A Yeonjong 8.24 submarine launched the two missiles into the waters off the east coast of Korea in the prime hours on Sunday morning, according to KCNA.
The two missiles traveled about 1,500 kilometers before hitting a target in sea.
Maximum alert
While the Joint Chiefs of Staff indicated that the army is in alert and that the South Korean intelligence agency is working with its American counterpart to analyze the details of the launch, according to Reuters.
This comes as South Korean and US forces are due to begin joint exercises on Monday, which will last 11 days, under the title (Freedom Shield 23), “Shield of Freedom 23”.
