Nothing Phone 2 to launch in US later this year

Carl Pei says that the next top-of-the-line phone will be “more premium” than the Phone 1.

Carl Pei has confirmed that the new Phone 2 will be available in the US by the end of this year. The CEO and co-founder said that the 2023 flagship is “more premium” than the Nothing Phone 1, which Engadget called “an impressive debut” in our review.

In an interview with Inverse, Pei said a few interesting things. First, he says that the US launch of the Ear 1 earbud was an excellent way to measure US demand. Pei said, “The US market is fascinating because it’s a big country.” “If you look at our earbuds sales, you’ll see that about a third of them come from the US. And by not putting our phone on the market in the US, we could be leaving a third of our sales on the table.” Pei says that the US launch of the Phone 2 is Nothing’s most important goal for this year.

Pei thinks smartphone sales are decreasing, showing that the US market is ready for new ideas. “From a business point of view, Apple and Samsung shouldn’t try something very niche and different because they might turn off their current customers. We can try to do something different because we are a smaller company. It’s not that we’re smarter or that they can’t do it; it’s just that they shouldn’t.” But even though stagnation may have played a role, supply-chain problems, inflation, and an unpredictable economy were likely the main reasons for the drop.

And if we don’t sell our phone in the US, we could miss out on a third of our sales.” Pei says that Nothing’s most important goal for this year is to bring the Phone 2 to the US.

Pei thinks that the fact that sales of smartphones are dropping shows that the US market is ready for new ideas. “From a business point of view, Apple and Samsung shouldn’t try something very niche and different because they might turn away their current customers. Because we are a smaller company, we can try to do something different.
