Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Thursday that Russian energy giant Rosneft has asked the government to allow it to export natural gas and that the government is looking into the request.
Rosneft is considered to be among the largest Russian companies and its poor performance over the past year reflects the difficulties faced by the Russian oil-dependent economy in a decline in global trade due to the Corona virus pandemic.
The head of Russian oil giant Rosneft, Igor Sechin, said last June that the world was facing a severe oil shortage due to lack of investment and efforts to turn to alternative energy.
Sechin said a court order for Shell to make deep cuts in carbon emissions represents one of the new forms of risk for major oil companies.
