The 63-year-old will join United from Lokomotiv Moscow, where he was director of sport and development.

After the end of the season in course, the former Leipzig coach will remain at Old Trafford but in an advisory role for another two years.

Rangnick will take over from the other interim manager, Michael Carrick, who oversaw the team in two games after Solskjaer was sacked a week ago.
