Omicron variant detected in Netherlands for flights to South Africa

AMSTERDAM, Nov 30 (Reuters) – The COVID-19 Omicron variant has been detected in Netherlands before two flights arrived from South Africa last week met the virus, Dutch health officials said: on Tuesday.

At least 14 people on flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town arrived at Schiphol Airport on Nov 26 met the new variant, the National Institute for Public Health (RIVM) has announced this.

The discovery of Omicron has fueled worry around the world that it could withstand vaccinations and the nearly two-year-old COVID-19 pandemic.
