Our Yorkshire Farm: Amanda Owen's chance meeting with Clive led to romance despite age gap

Our Yorkshire Farm’s starring couple Amanda Owen, 46, and husband Clive, 67, are firm fan favourites of viewers who love the Channel 5 show. After being married for over 20 years, the Yorkshire Shepherdess has opened up on how she found love with Clive, who was a divorced bachelor when she met him over 25 years ago. While the farmer admits that he was immediately smitten with the trainee shepherdess, Amanda says their relationship was more of a “slow burn”.

Amanda set the record straight on her first meeting with Clive.

The star revealed that the pair first set eyes on each other by chance when the young shepherdess knocked on the door of his Ravenseat Farm looking for a ram.

For the 21-year-old TV star, it wasn’t love at first sight when she met the 42-year-old divorced farmer, but Clive admits that he felt differently.

“I do remember this six-foot something woman knocked on the door.

“I was very taken with her. You couldn’t not be,” he said.

Amanda however explained that she became attracted to her future husband by building the foundations of friendship.

Speaking to The Radio Times, she said: “It was a slow burn thing we kind of got to know each other.

“[We] made friends first then went out a little bit together,” she added.

The star also admitted that in hindsight, she has realised that the couple have a lot in common, something she didn’t know when she first met him.

“With us both coming from non-farming backgrounds we were kind of peas in a pod really but we didn’t know that at the time,” she said.

Before becoming a farmer, Amanda revealed that she initially wanted to carve out a career in the modelling industry.

However, after appearing in “knitting catalogues” the star gave up her modelling career, as she wanted a job where she could work outside.

Clive also came from a non-farming family but dreamed of becoming a farmer at just eight years old.

Five years after their first meeting, the couple married in 2000 and now have a family of nine children, alongside 1,000 sheep, 40 cows, six dogs, and four ponies.

The fan favourite couple share brood Annas, Violet, Edith, Raven, Clemmy, Nancy, Reuben, Miles, and Sidney together.

Speaking to This Morning hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary last month, the star revealed that after giving birth to six of her children on the roadside because she didn’t make it to a hospital in time, the shepherdess decided that staying at home was the best option.

“I was so fed up of spoiling people’s picnics and all the rest of it,” she said.

“So, I thought right well, this time I’m just going to go it alone.”

Amanda explained how she gave birth with just her pet dog for support, before going upstairs to wake a sleeping Clive and show him his new child.

“I put the kettle on, stoked up the fire and basically had her in front of the fire with just a terrier as a birthing partner, which is perfect.”
