76ers center Joel Embiid may not have recognized Pacers coach Dan Burke before Monday night. He knows exactly who Burke is now.
Burke came out strong with the Sixers and Embiid following the Pacers’ loss to Philadelphia on Saturday. Embiid scored 32 points and won 11 rebounds to lead the Sixers to a 119-116 victory, but obviously something about Embiid’s playing style bothered Burke.

“I hate this team,” Burke said in an interview aired during Fox Sports Indiana’s broadcast of Monday’s Pacers-Grizzlies competition. “I really wanted to win this game. I think Embiid gets away with a lot of crap that the league is ignoring and it would be good to get away with (victory).”
These comments somehow earned Burke a seat at Sixers coach Brett Brown’s Christmas table.
Brett Brown was asked if he was taking this as a supplement.
“Absolutely … I’d bring him home for Christmas, and he could share Christmas dinner.” https://t.co/W1U9RLmsde

Embiid said he was finished talking junk after the October race with Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns, but come on. Burke throws a pitch just below the middle in Embiid here. No one will be shocked if Embiid fires back at the camera or through social media. (He has not said anything since Tuesday afternoon.)
The 76ers and Pacers meet again on December 31. Happy New Year, basketball fans.
