Pele is hospitalized in palliative care because it is unresponsive to chemotherapy

BERLIN: Brazilian soccer legend Pelé is said to have been transferred to palliative care. Pelé, who is a three-time World Cup winner and is considered one of the greatest players in football history, underwent surgery to remove a polyp in his colon last year and has been hospitalized ever since in hospital. Pele has been transferred in hospital earlier this week, although his daughter said on Wednesday the matter was not surprising or urgent, while Pelé said on the ‘Instagram’ photo-sharing platform that the visit is monthly. But the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper reported today, Saturday, that Pelé was no longer responding to chemotherapy and was now receiving pain relief measures in a special hospital ward. The 82-year-old Pelé will not receive any surgery or other tests. (dpa/stats perform)
