Brazilian football legend Pele said he is recovering well from surgery to remove a colon cancer he suffered last Saturday in a hospital in the state of São Paulo.
“I’m recovering well,” said Pele, 80, sui social media.
The hospital in where Pelé is hospitalized had indicated on Monday that the ex star he was recovering in the intensive care unit, but Wednesday did not indicate in a statement if Pele was still hospitalized.
The tumor was discovered during routine cardiovascular and laboratory tests conducted by Pele, who underwent surgery to remove it.
Pelé, the only player in history to win three World Cups (1958, 1962 and 1970), scored 77 goals in 92 games with the Seleção shirt. He was chosen in 1999 by the International Olympic Committee as one of the best athletes of the 20th century, and a year later as the best player of the same century by the International Football Association (FIFA).
He is considered by many to be the greatest footballer of all time.
