Piers Morgan is done with breakfast TV after GMB, claims Andrew Neil amid GB News chats

Since Piers Morgan, 56, left Good Morning Britain back in March, the rumour mill has been rife as to which show will secure the outspoken presenter next. Ahead of the launch of news channel GB News, founder and chairman Andrew Neil admitted Piers seemed like he was done with breakfast TV. For now.

It’s become common knowledge that since his departure from the ITV flagship show, Piers has been in high demand as Neil believed he would be a “huge asset” to their team if he were to join them on Freeview, Freesat, Sky, YouView and Virgin Media.

While the channel will not provide rolling news, but instead is expected to be a mix of news, opinion, and debate.

In a new interview, the former BBC presenter spoke about how he and Piers have been in “good discussions” about him coming aboard.

“Yes, we have had conversations, but not about breakfast,” Neil said of their chats.

“All my indications are that Piers doesn’t want another breakfast show.”

He added to Radio Times: “But I think if he does any more British news TV it’s more likely to be with us than with anybody else.

“We’re in good discussions, we continue to stay in touch and he knows that we feel that he would be a great addition to the line-up.”

The highly-anticipated presenting line-up for GB News has had the public on high alert to see what other big names would be joining the all-star cast.

So far, Neil has managed to bag the likes of Simon McCoy from BBC News, Kirsty Gallacher and Alastair Stewart.

Recently, Piers told Australia’s Today programme that GMB’s ratings have “collapsed” since he left the show, adding that the company’s share price fall valued him higher than the world’s most expensive footballer Neymar.

In August 2017 PSG signed the Brazillian striker for £198 million from Barcelona.

He said: “It is quite interesting, two things happened when I left.

“One is the share price of ITV the company that put on Good Morning Britain fell by five percent or £250 million.

“Which valued me at about £50 million more than Neymar, the world’s most expensive footballer.”

Piers went on: “The second thing that has happened is the ratings have completely collapsed.

“I don’t take any pleasure in that, I spent five years building up those ratings.”

He continued: “Ironically on my last day, we finally beat the BBC which had always been my mission.

“So in a way, I kind of scaled the mountain but they are certainly flying very fast down the other side.”
