Polish court overturns decision to fine companies involved in project "Nord Stream 2"

The competent Polish court overturned the decision of the authorities in 2020 to fine companies involved in the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, including the Russian Gazprom.

The Polish Competition and Consumer Protection Authority said it had decided to impose a fine of more than PLN 29 billion ($6.3 billion) on Gazprom and more than PLN 234 million (about $53 million) on other project participants. .

Representatives of the companies appealed this decision, and today, on Monday, the Polish Court for the Protection of Competition and Consumer Rights granted their claims.

The Polish Office for Competition and Consumer Protection intends to appeal the court’s decision.

In 2018, the aforementioned administration initiated an investigation against the Russian company Gazprom and 5 other companies of the Nord Stream 2 project and accused these companies of violating Polish antitrust laws.
