Potter relieved as Chelsea secures 1-0 victory against Leeds

Chelsea secured a much-needed win against Leeds United on Saturday, with a goal by French defender Wesley Fofana in the 53rd minute. It was Chelsea’s first victory since January 15th and came as a relief to Manager Graham Potter. Joao Felix, on loan from Portugal, hit the crossbar just before Fofana’s goal, making it the first time in 2023 that Chelsea scored a second goal at home. Kai Havertz missed a chance to score in the first half when he sent his shot too late, and goalkeeper Ian Millier blocked his effort in the 15th minute. Raheem Sterling also had a close call when his shot hit the crossbar in the 22nd minute. Chelsea wing-back Ben Chilwell was instrumental in creating the team’s dangerous attacks and played a role in all of their chances. In the second half, Leeds did manage to create two dangerous chances with long shots, but both were unsuccessful. The match ended with Chelsea winning 1-0, giving them a much-needed morale boost before their Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund next Tuesday. Leeds United, meanwhile, find themselves only one point ahead of the relegation zone.
