Prime Minister of Portugal does not exclude the extension of the gas pipeline linking his country with Central Europe, bypassing France

Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa did not rule out the possibility of laying a gas pipeline connecting the Iberian Peninsula with Central Europe, bypassing the territory of France.

“Yesterday, the Prime Minister announced that the European Commission has recognized the possibility of an alternative gas pipeline route that will connect Central Europe with the Iberian Peninsula,” writes the newspaper Observador.

The Prime Minister of Portugal noted that the initial version of the project faced “environmental restrictions pointed out by France.” Antonio Costa noted that an alternative would be to connect Spain and Portugal with Italy, which means extending the line across the Mediterranean.

Earlier, radio station Cadena Ser, citing sources in the transitional Ministry of the Environment of Spain, said that Spain would offer to export gas to Europe through two gas pipelines through the Pyrenees, as well as use the logistics capabilities of the national gas system to avoid the need to reduce gas consumption.
