It is a Christmas tradition in the royal family to take a public walk to Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church on the estate of Queen Elizabeth Sandringham, and this year it seems that there will be two new stars of the show : Prince George, six, and Princess Charlotte, four.
An insider to People magazine that young members of the royal family will make their debut in the Christmas market this year alongside their parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, if all goes according to plan.
Prince Louis, 20 months, will probably not join the rest of his family, because he is still a little too young to participate in the tradition. However, he made his public debut at Trooping the Color last summer.
The source says plans may change, but for now, it looks like Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be part of the march. However, their uncle, aunt and cousin – Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Archie Harrison – will not be at Sandringham this year.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have previously announced that they will not be spending the holidays with the rest of the royal family as they did after their marriage in 2017 and their marriage in 2018. Instead, they will spend the vacation with Markle’s mother Doria Ragland.
“Having spent the last two Christmases in Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will vacation this year, as a new family, with the mother of Duchess Doria Ragland,” said Buckingham Palace in a statement. “This decision is consistent with the precedent previously established by other members of the royal family and has the support of Her Majesty the Queen.”
As for Prince George and Princess Charlotte, this is the first time that they will go on a public march with the rest of the royal family at Sandringham. But in 2016, their siblings were spotted during a church service near Middleton’s childhood home in Bucklebury when William, Kate and the kids spent the holidays with the Duchess’ family.
Prince George and Princess Charlotte were almost the same age as William and Harry when they made their debut at Sandringham. Prince William first walked in 1987 at the age of five. And, Prince Harry made his debut in 1988 at the age of four.
