Prince Harry's name dragged into Dan Walker and Piers Morgan exchange as BBC gig ruled out

Dan Walker, 44, responded to Piers Morgan’s tweet about being his potential new co-star after Louise Minchin, 52, announced her departure from the show. The former Good Morning Britain star said he’d be up for the new job, on two conditions.

Piers, 56, responded to an article headline which read: “Could @piersmorgan be among those to replace Louise Minchin on BBC Breakfast?”

In view of his 7.9 million followers, he wrote: “Definitely, if the BBC doesn’t mind smashing its pay structure & @mrdanwalker is ordered to make my tea.”

In response to his tweet, Dan wrote: “There is more chance of Prince Harry getting the gig.

“And you’d be making the brews #MilkNoSugarPlease.”

Many Twitter users flocked to his post to comment on the pair’s exchange.

One user wrote: “I suspect it would be the other way round.”

A second commented: “They won’t have you, no government minister will consent to an interview.”

“Never change Dan,” a third added.

It’s not the first time the pair have exchanged their views over Twitter following Louise’s news.

Yesterday, the latter told BBC Breakfast viewers she’d be leaving the show later this year after 20 years.

Dan later shared an emotional post, telling fans her announcement felt like a “break up” to him.

In response to his tweet, Piers urged him to “stop blubbing” and went on to suggest he could be his new co-host.

He added: “BBC wanted the guy who beat you in the ratings, and the first same-sex male breakfast presenting team to appease the wokies.”

But having none of it, Dan replied: “No thanks… wouldn’t want you storming off if Carol [Kirkwood – BBC weather presenter] asked you something awkward. #TearsForPiers.”

The presenter was referring to the time he walked off the Good Morning Britain set during a heated debate with Alex Beresford.

Piers was called out by Alex over comments he made about Meghan Markle following her interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The father-of-four said he didn’t believe a word Prince Harry’s wife said in their “bombshell” chat.

The Duchess of Sussex said she felt suicidal during her time in the Royal Family and alleged that an unnamed family member had concerns about their son Archie’s skin colour.

In the same week, ITV and Piers announced he had left the show after five years.

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One. Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
