Protecting Alliance Territory from Putin: NATO Ready for the Pace

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not ready for the pace.

“We will not allow Russia to influence the security of Europe,” he said in his speech at the 9 Bucharest summit in Warsaw, in Poland.

“We will protect every inch of alliance territory,” he added.

BIDEN: We will defend every inch of NATO territory

In turn, US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that NATO has become stronger than before, reaffirming the defense of every inch of NATO territory.

“NATO’s eastern flank is the first line of the alliance’s collective defense,” he added.

He also stated at the Bucharest 9 Group summit in Warsaw, in Poland, “I assured Ukrainian President Zelensky in Kiev of NATO’s commitment to support Ukraine”.

In turn, the president of Romania declared the war in Ukraine has brought suffering and displaced millions of people, adding: “Continued support to Ukraine is essential for the future of Europe.”

He also continued in his speech, “Washington has demonstrated great commitment to the security of NATO’s eastern wing,” expressing his aspiration to strengthen the American presence in Eastern Europe.

What is Bucharest Group 9?

It should be noted that the group (Bucharest Nine) was established on 4 November 2015 in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, on the initiative of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, and the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, during a bilateral meeting which brought together the Nine Member States are Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania and Slovakia.

The group emerged mainly with the aim of addressing Russia’s position after the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine and its subsequent intervention in eastern Ukraine in 2014, especially since all member states of the (Bucharest Nine) were part of the former Soviet Union or members of the former Warsaw Pact.
