Things are looking up for those hoping to receive a PlayStation 5 this holiday season. The PS5 has been one of the most challenging pieces of technology to obtain over the past two years due to an ongoing chip shortage, which makes it difficult for businesses to match demand with their products. The PS5 and Xbox Series X have primarily been available online for a substantial time, with sporadic and temporary in-store restocks. But many of these restocks required buying a package that included games, accessories, and other things. It increased the cost of the console by several hundred dollars and decreased its appeal to those who could still find one.
The PS5 appears to be readily available this holiday season, though. This is likely your best chance, even though not everyone will be able to get one, and it will take some work. Small PS5 supplies were available in stores throughout November. Still, it became apparent on Black Friday that the console was beginning to meet greater demand. Plenty of PlayStation 5s with God of War Ragnarok pre-installed in stores like Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart. We visited two Best Buy stores, and we can attest that there were stacks of PlayStation 5 consoles in each location. Online reports indicate that this was the case nationwide. Users may have a good chance of getting one with Cyber Monday just around the corner since it’s essentially the follow-up to Black Friday.
If you still plan to buy one soon, inquire with your local retailer about their plans for restocking in December. Sony and retailers will likely work together to make sure that more of these consoles reach players this holiday season now that a significant first-party title is available for the system, and 2023 will feature games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
