Putin calls for strengthening military relations with Belarus

Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that his country will not swallow Belarus, calling for the strengthening of military relations with this allied country, following talks with his counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, following a drone strike in Kiev that caused a power outage.

Putin said yesterday, on Monday, in a joint press conference with his Belarusian counterpart, after the talks in Minsk, “Russia has no interest in swallowing anyone. This is simply meaningless.”

He announced an agreement reached by the two leaders during these “key” talks to strengthen their cooperation in “all fields”, in particularly in the defense sector.

Putin also referred to “joint measures to guarantee” the security of the two countries and the “exchange of shipments of weapons”, as well as the joint production of weapons.

For his part, Lukashenko said: “Can we protect our independence alone without Russia? No.”

He added: “Russia can do without us, but we can’t do without them… And if anyone thinks they can separate us today (…) they won’t.”

“Troubled times require our political will and we focus on delivering results in all issues on the bilateral agenda,” Lukashenko told his Russian counterpart.

Military exercises

Before the Russian president arrived in Minsk, Moscow announced that its military forces were conducting military exercises with Belarusian forces.

And the Russian Defense Ministry has released images of military maneuvers with Belarusian forces, showing soldiers driving armored vehicles and practicing artillery and sniper attacks. in a snowy field.

In October, Belarus announced the creation of joint regional forces with Moscow, which have been joined by thousands of Russian conscripts.
