Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that it is unfair to accuse Russia of being responsible for rising natural gas prices to levels record in Europe, as Russia’s Gazprom has met all its supply commitments.
Putin said at an annual press conference that Gazprom had to fulfill all of its obligations under long-term deals before delivering to spot markets.
He added that countries with long-term contracts, such as Germany, now have much lower prices and can resell the gas to their neighbors and make a profit.
Putin said Europe created its own gas problems and had to solve them on its own, adding that he doubted what part of the Russian gas was coming in. in Germany through a pipeline would then be resold to Ukraine.
