Qatar Development Fund and Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority Launch Integrated City Project in Northern Syria

Cooperation in Support of Syrian Refugees and Displaced Persons

The Qatar Development Fund and Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) have laid the cornerstone for an integrated city project in northern Syria.

This joint project is part of the cooperation between Qatar and Turkey in supporting Syrian refugees and displaced persons. The Qatari newspaper Al-Rai cited Qena in reporting that the groundbreaking ceremony was attended by His Excellency Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, Director General of the Foundation, and His Excellency Suleiman Soylu, Minister of the Interior of Turkey.

Integrated Service Targeting 50,000 People

The integrated city project is designed to provide support to 50,000 people and will comprise of 5,000 apartments, community facilities, a mosque, a shopping mall, three schools, and a medical center. The infrastructure of the city will be developed through the construction of roads, public parks, an electricity grid, and reservoirs to provide a decent livelihood for displaced individuals and Syrian refugees, and support their resilience.

Providing Assistance and Resilience to Those Displaced

This integrated city project is yet another initiative undertaken to help provide assistance to Syrian refugees and displaced individuals in crisis. The efforts of the Qatar Development Fund and Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority speak volumes about the importance of offering such support to people who need it the most.
