Queen Latifah, Gabrielle Union Assist Raise Funds for the American Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Effort

Hosted by Queen Latifah and including looks by Gabrielle Union and an effectiveness by Katharine McPhee-Foster, the American Lung Association streamed its first- ever live digital fundraising event, #Act 4Impact, on Saturday (Sept. 26).

At the leading of the event, Queen Latifah revealed how the unique coronavirus pandemic “has actually made glaringly clear the shocking inequities in our country and spotlighted the human toll they have actually had on our most vulnerable populations.” She added the event’s focus on helping those most at danger by the infection– Black, Latinx and native communities.

Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade appeared in their home to engage in the #lungflexchallenge, revealing how much one can do with merely one breath– in their case, how much they might dance.

Katherine McPhee sang a genuine performance of “The Prayer,” accompanied by other half David Foster on piano. The singer committed her performance to frontline and essential employees “who have saved so many lives, touched so many hearts, and kept our world going during this difficult moment.”

The two-hour advantage also came up with scientists, health care workers and people affected by COVID-19 to spread out out awareness on the continuous health care variations that continue to affect marginalized neighborhoods throughout this pandemic.

Latifah held one panel together with Dr. Juanita Mora, an allergist/immunologist at the Chicago Allergic Reaction Center, Dr. Cedric “Jamie” Rutland, an assistant scientific instructor at the University of California Riverside, and Dr. Sumita Khatri, director of the Asthma Center at the Cleveland Center. The trio discussed issues impacting marginalized neighborhoods, from language barriers with medical professional to an absence of resources to ensure security for themselves and taken pleasure in ones, in addition to establishing options, such as telemedicine that provides increased schedule for those who can not physically get to a physician’s office.
