Members of this family were seriously injured last May in an attack launched by a number of their neighbors because of their Kurdish nationalism, telling them: “Kurds are not allowed to live here”, according to the site web Gazet Duvar news in mid-July from one of this family members The family that was killed, Friday.

That day the victim accused the police and the judiciary of favoring the attackers, stressing that all family members feared for their lives.

According to the victims’ defense lawyer Abd al-Rahman Karabulut, the release of the perpetrators of the first attack gave them a sense of impunity.

“This is a completely racist attack,” Karabulut told Arte TV. “The judiciary and the authorities have their share of responsibility for what happened.”

In turn, Erin Keskin, vice president of the Human Rights Association, tweeted: “This is a problem we have been following. The youngest member of the family told me: ‘We are very scared.’

However, the authorities were quick to deny the racist nature of the crime. The Turkish Interior Minister, Suleyman Soylu, told reporters that the crime was caused by a chronic animosity between two families, considering it a “provocation” to consider the incident a crime of racism.

He added: “There is no link between this attack and the Turkish-Kurdish question. The link between these two issues is as dangerous as the attack.”

However, the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP) rejected the minister’s statement, stating that the crimes in Konya that killed Kurdish citizens are part of the attacks on Kurds, which have increased in frequency in recent years.
