Recall 3 million auto in this country in the last year

South Korea recalled a record record of nearly 3 million vehicles last year to replace defective parts and other repairs, according to government data shown Sunday.

According to data provided by the Ministry of the Territory, about 2.93 million were recalled in 2021 auto out of a total of 2,443 models, both foreign and domestic, the highest annual number since the towing system was first introduced in 2003.

The data showed that approximately 1.76 million units of 71 domestic models were withdrawn from the total and the rest were auto foreigners, citing the South Korean agency “Yonhap”.

Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea’s largest automaker, acquired the majority with 937,000 auto, followed by its subsidiary Kia with 602,000 auto.

Among foreign automakers, BMW ranked first with a recall of 565,000 auto, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 352,000 units last year.

Industry observers attributed the rise in auto recalled at the rapid pace at which newly developed electronic technologies are introduced in the automotive industry, increasing the potential for technical malfunction.

The monitors added that also the increased consumer awareness in safety has played a role in increasing the overall number of recalls.
