The summer anime season of 2020 had some big hits, but one of the most surprising was the romantic comedy show “Rent-a-Girlfriend,” which was based on a manga by Reiji Miyajima for the Weekly Shonen Magazine. Miyajima tweeted that the show had moved up to fourth place on Netflix Japan’s list of most popular shows.
The main character of “Rent-a-Girlfriend” is 20-year-old Kazuya Kinoshita, who decides to use a dating app that lets him rent a girlfriend after his girlfriend, Mami Nanami, breaks up with him. He rents the pretty Chizuru Mizuhara, but he gives her a low rating after thinking about how fake the whole thing was. But things change when Kazuya brings Chizuru to visit his grandmother in the hospital, and his grandmother likes her. Kazuya and Chizuru also find out that they live next door.
Fans wondered if there would be a Season 2 as Season 1 ended. The show’s producer, Taiki Kakizaki, tweeted that fans should pre-order the Blu-ray to get enough interest for a second season.

Rent-A-Girlfriend Season 2 Release Date
It didn’t take long at all for Season 2 of “Rent-a-Girlfriend” to be announced. The show is streamed on Crunchyroll, which said that a second season was confirmed just as the first one was ending in 2020. But at the time, there was no set date for when it would come out. Crunchyroll reported that Season 2 of “Rent-a-Girlfriend” will come out in July 2022, but the exact date is unknown.
Fans might have wanted the show to come out in 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic might have kept the show from coming out with a second season the year after Season 1. Nikkei Asia said that the pandemic had caused a lot of trouble for Japanese animation studios, so a release date of 2022 makes sense.
What is the plot of Rent-a-Girlfriend season two?
A plot summary for Season 2 of “Rent-a-Girlfriend” has not been made public yet. But the first season didn’t stray too far from the manga it was based on. It stuck pretty close to the first six volumes. The manga has close to 190 chapters and 19 volumes, and there is no word yet on when it will end, so there is a lot that the new season could use.
The last episode of Season 1 had a lot of interesting things happen. Mami actually rented Chizuru and then talked to her about Kazuya, letting her know that she knew how Chizuru and Kazuya really felt about each other. Chizuru, on the other hand, said that Kazuya was her real boyfriend. Then she asked Mami if she ever thought of Kazuya as the love of her life, but Mami didn’t say much. Later, Kazuya meets up with Chizuru and sort of tells her that he wants her as a girlfriend, but then he says that he means as a rental girlfriend.
The changes between Kazuya, Chizuru, and Mami are likely to be looked at more in Season 2. And while the first season kept hinting at how these characters really felt, the second season is likely to give them more chances to show how they really feel.

Chizuru Ichinose
The main female character of the Kanojo, Okarishimasu series is Chizuru Mizuhara, who is also known as Chizuru Mizuhara in her “rental girlfriend” form. She is a Literature major at Nerima University, and she lives in Room 204 of Royal Hills Nerima, right next door to Kazuya Kinoshita.
Kazuya Kinoshita
In the Kanojo, and Okarishimasu books, Kazuya Kinoshita is the main male character. He is a Business Administration major at Nerima University, and he lives alone in an apartment at 203 Royal Hills Nerima.
Sumi Sakurasawa
Sumi Sakurasawa is one of the Kanojo, Okarishimasu series’ main female secondary protagonists. She is in her first year of college and works as a rental girlfriend for Chizuru Ichinose’s company. This is her first job in this field. She is also the main character of Kanojo, Hitomishirimasu, which is a spin-off show.
Ruka Sarashina
In the Kanojo, Okarishimasu series, Ruka Sarashina is the second main character. She is a girl whose heart beats slower than most people’s, and she wants a boyfriend who can help her deal with this.
Mami Nanami
