Reports: Rooney will coach DC United

LONDON: Several media reported that former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has reached an agreement to become the manager of DC United in the American Professional Football League. Rooney, who played for DC United in 2018 and 2019, stepped down as manager of Derby County last month, ending a tough 17-month spell in which the club English struggled with financial problems and was demoted in third division. Rooney is in negotiations with the club American for weeks, according to Sunday, and will take over from interim manager Chad Ashton, who took over after Hernan Losada’s departure in April. ESPN reported that Rooney will join the team United States once final details are agreed and a work visa is obtained. DC United occupies the penultimate position in the eastern section of the American League with 17 points in 17 games and lost 7-0 to Philadelphia Union in the last round. Rooney scored 253 goals for Manchester United and won five English Premier League titles and a Champions League title with the club.
