Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Denise Richards revealed this week – via her husband Aaron Phypers’ Instagram post – that she had undergone emergency surgery to repair hernias! Phypers published a series of photos of his recovering wife, and he wrote in the caption that Richards is “getting stronger.”
Richards republished the photos and explained on her Instagram page that the operation took place two months ago.
“It was a few months ago and turned out to be a good lesson for me to always listen to my body,” wrote Richards. “Being a mom, a wife and having a career is sometimes easier to just be strong and empowered.”
The mother of three added that she thought her pain and other symptoms would “just go away”, but she did not. Instead, everything has become “much worse”.
After going to the doctor, Richards discovered that she had two femoral hernias and two inguinal hernias. According to People Magazine, inguinal hernias are visible and are located at the top of the groin. But, femoral hernias are positioned lower near the femoral vein, making them more difficult to diagnose.
Richards says she regrets waiting so long to tell her husband how bad she felt and she knows “it was stupid” to do it. She explained that we must always listen to our bodies and take care of ourselves.
Phypers praised his wife for her beauty, persistence and dedication in everything she did, and called her “the most incredible woman” and her “soul mate”. He added that he waited six hours nearby while she was in surgery, and ended his legend by declaring his love for his wife.
Earlier this year, Richards told fans that she had an enlarged thyroid gland after some of them noticed it at the RHOBH Season 9 meeting. She said it was something she had ignored until it was highlighted. Richards ended up changing his diet by eliminating gluten, and she couldn’t believe the improvement.
“I didn’t know how much our food can really affect our body and for me how toxic gluten really is … I thank everyone who sent me messages,” wrote Richards.
Denise Richards and her co-stars from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will return for season 10 when the new episodes premiere in 2020 on Bravo.
