There are reports that “Ring” security cameras have been hacked. Now steps are being taken after the company is accused of failing to secure its products from piracy.
According to TMZ, Ring and its parent company, Amazon are facing a class action, and the named plaintiff, John Baker Orange, claims that in July last year, someone hijacked his camera outside his home. He says that a hacker started commenting on his children who were playing basketball at the time. The person who hacked into the camera started encouraging the kids to get closer to the camera.
The lawsuit alleges that there were at least six other hacks that occurred across the country. The lawsuit also claims that Ring and Amazon took no responsibility and instead blamed the owners of the cameras.
Earlier this month, we reported a family security camera being hacked, as a man told their 8-year-old daughter that he was Santa Claus.
According to Business Insider, John Yanchunis, the lawyer who launched the lawsuit, said, “A company that provides security devices for its home must focus more on the security of these devices. Everything indicates that security is lax on these machines. “
Roommates, what are your thoughts?
