Rivian, Amazon in talks to end exclusivity part of electric van deal, report says

Rivian, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, and Amazon, its largest shareholder, are reportedly in talks to end the exclusivity part of their EV van deal. Amazon had initially ordered 100,000 electric delivery vans from Irvine, California-based Rivian in 2019, as part of the company’s goal to cut carbon emissions. It has since taken deliveries and added the EDVs to its fleet, with over 10 million packages delivered. However, the retail giant has now informed the EV maker that it wants to buy just 10,000 vans this year, which is at the low end of the range it previously provided.

According to the Wall Street Journal, anonymous sources close to the situation confirmed the discussions, and Rivian’s stock fell by around 3% in trading before the start of business. However, the EV manufacturer issued a statement saying that it was continuing to work closely with Amazon.
