Archaeologists in the Republic of Khakassia have discovered a unique medieval shield of a nomad warrior.
The official website of the Khakass University states that such combat armor is currently rare, since the organic materials used to make them decompose, as well as the absence in the traditions of these tribes of the burial of a shield with its deceased warrior-owner.
“It became known what types of combat armor were used by the nomadic tribes of the plains of Khakassia. This was facilitated by the discovery some time ago by a city dweller of a shield in the valley of the Ust-Abakan region, ”the university said in a statement.
According to preliminary expert estimates, this shield belongs to the period between the twelfth and sixteenth centuries. The original copy of this shield is currently being repaired and restored, and the copy is exhibited at the Museum of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the University of the Republic of Khakassia.
