Russia tests nuclear submarine after modernization

Informed sources in the field of the Russian military-industrial complex reported that specialists in the country have begun testing a combat nuclear submarine that has undergone modernization in terms of equipment.

The Russian TASS news agency quoted an informed military source as saying: “The Russian military submarine Tombov, which has undergone repair and modernization work, recently went to sea for a series of tests in preparation for its return to service for the Northern Fleet of the Russian Army.”

Another source told the agency: “The tests of the submarine may be extended by six months, depending on the results, during which specialists will check all the submarine’s systems, equipment and weapons systems.”

Tambov is the second of the nuclear submarines developed by Russia under the state project 671RTMK, and this submarine entered service with the Russian army in 1993, and in 2015 was sent to private repair pools to undergo repairs and equipment upgrades.

Project 671RTMK submarines are armed with 600mm torpedoes and 533mm torpedoes.
