The Kremlin stressed on Tuesday that Ukraine must give up territories that Russia has announced its annexation before engaging in any diplomatic negotiations. in response to Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposal to organize a “world summit on the formula of pace”.
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told his daily press conference: “The Ukrainian side must realize what happened on the ground,” according to AFP.
He also clarified that “these facts demonstrate that the Russian Federation possesses new lands”, indicating “the impossibility of any diplomatic progress” as long as Kiev “does not take these facts into account”.
He also stressed that the withdrawal of his Russian forces from Ukraine before Christmas is “out of the question”, in response to another request made by Zelensky, Monday, during a video intervention in front of the Group of Seven.
This came after the Ukrainian president renewed his plan on Monday pace in 10 points, presented in mid-November, and which deals with restoring territorial integrity, the fate of prisoners and food security.

It should be noted that at the end of last September Russia announced the annexation of 4 Ukrainian regions, in addition to the Crimean peninsula, which it had already annexed in 2014, without extending full control, with a decision widely rejected by the international community.

The Ukrainian military has been pushing back the Russian forces for several months. To deal with it, Moscow has announced the mobilization of 300,000 reservists to strengthen its ranks.
