Amid rising tensions between the two countries, a Russian foreign ministry official said on Friday that his country’s relations with the United States were “at the last gasp”.
“Do not interfere in our affairs.”
The head of the North American department at the Foreign Ministry, Alexander Darchiev, said Washington’s new ambassador to Moscow, Lynne Tracy, should not interfere in her country’s affairs “under the guise of working with civil society,” according to the Russian news agency Tass.
Tracy was named US Ambassador in Russia on December 21, in following the withdrawal of Ambassador John Sullivan.
Sullivan, 62, left Russia in early September, less than three years after entering in office, amid mutual expulsions of diplomats between Washington and Moscow, before pressure intensified in the aftermath of the war in Ukraine in February.
And yesterday, the US State Department announced that the United States today, Thursday, imposed sanctions on ten Russian naval entities due to Russian operations against Ukrainian ports, in one moment in which Washington is increasing the pressure on Moscow because of its military operation in Ukraine .
