Russian scientists have created a substance that accelerates the restoration of bones

Scientists at the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” have created a substance that stimulates the growth of bone tissue, thereby accelerating the process of restoring damaged bones.

Its main component is a porous chitosan sponge, which is obtained from shells or other organs of crustaceans.

The researchers added tricalcium phosphate (the mineral that makes up bone cells) to this material, as well as reduced graphene oxide (a good conductor of electricity), which helps speed up bone growth with a weak electric current. The material, created by scientists at the Kurchatov Institute, is designed to restore the spongy parts that are located at the ends of the bones.

For a new material to be effective, its mechanical properties must be the same or very close to those of the original fabric. The researchers achieved good results thanks to the numerous transactions and tests they carried out on the concentration of the components of the final material.
