Rust Update 1.83 – Patch Notes on October 28, 2023

A new update has been released for Rust, introducing a range of bug fixes, improvements, and gameplay changes. The update, known as Rust Update 1.83, is now available for all platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. Gameplay Improvements
Several bugs and issues have been addressed in the gameplay department. Players will no longer clip through terrain when sitting in has flesh. Additionally, a bug that made Quick Chat unusable when pressed quickly after opening an Interactable has been fixed. Loot accessibility has also been improved, as players’ bodies will no longer clip through objects, making it impossible to retrieve items. The FPS drop experienced when shooting from a multiple Grenade Launcher has been resolved, and pressing Sort while in Locked Crate Inventory will no longer kick players out of the game. Furthermore, players will no longer be able to kill Sleeping players inside a Safe Zone. The FPS drop caused when tossing water out of a Water Jug, Bucket, or Bottle has also been fixed. Dead player models will no longer T-pose, and Junkpile Scientists will no longer spawn floating above junkpiles. A softlock bug when spamming Kill & Respawn in the map has been addressed, and Scientists’ Flashlights will now switch on when night falls. Incendiary Rockets will now match the Steam Version, and the issue causing Rowboats to be launched too high when detonated using explosives has been fixed. Lastly, barrels will no longer produce small white hit markers when attacked with a melee weapon, and half walls will no longer go invisible when upgraded from Twig to Wood.

Monument Fixes
Several fixes have been implemented for various monuments in the game. The Launch Site ramp now has the correct collision, and a gap in the area below the rocket skull in the Launch Site has been fixed. Crouching inconsistencies when trying to leave a certain wind on the Launch Site have also been resolved. The lights in watchtowers of the Airfield now have the correct brightness, and players will now properly get dragged along by the Cargo Ship. Scientist body bags will now spawn properly after the Cargo Ship despawns. The Airfield desk now has the correct rotation, and a small gap at Train Yard that allowed players to look and shoot through has been fixed. A bug that caused Watchtower bandits to stop shooting when a player stood in a specific corner has also been addressed. The Workbench in Bandit Camp no longer has candles that clip, and Bandit Camp boat doors now match the Steam version. Bandits at Bandit Camp will no longer miss shots when a player is standing close to them. Various fixes have been implemented for Outpost, including fixing the Small Water Catcher and ensuring the correct amount of light is produced by the lights at the location. The Quarry and Pump Jack belt no longer stops abruptly, and Oil Rig Scientists’ flashlights will no longer shine through walls.

World Fixes
Several bugs and issues related to the world have been resolved. Junkpile Scientists will now patrol pre/post combat commitment as intended, and rowboats can now be easily flipped back to their original position if they are upside down. The movement of the Red X on trees has been made less sporadic, and it is now easier to hit the Red X on Palm trees. Animals will no longer be found inside buildings and running through closed doors. Players can now accept the Dive Master Mission in the Large Fishing Village, and the lighting in caves/underground areas has been scaled back during parts of the day. Oxygen levels will no longer be displayed when a player exits the water while wearing a Diving Tank. Various gaps in Stone walled bases have been fixed, and terrain grass will now spawn on steep cliffs. The Hostile Timer radius around Safe Zones has been adjusted to a reasonable size, and shadows on Ceiling, Flasher, and Siren Lights have been fixed. Bullet holes will no longer glow when shooting at Boars, and projectiles will no longer fly through the Metal Shop Front. Players can no longer glitch into concrete supports of electrical pylons, and bullets will no longer pass through the Recycler room window. The Little Shark model now has the correct size, and players’ skin color will no longer be mis-matched between first-person view and in-menu. Additionally, FPS issues present in the Forest biome during the day have been resolved.

Item Fixes
Several fixes and changes have been made to various items in the game. The Ceiling Light can now be repaired with the Hammer, and the crafting recipe for the Stone Spear and Hide Poncho match the Steam version. Deployable Garage Doors no longer degrade in durability and now match the Steam version. The upkeep cost for Tool Cupboards now matches the Steam version, and the Harpoon model is no longer missing when reloading the Speargun. The Kayak can now be deployed, and the Chainsaw activation now has a higher success rate. The Vending Machine now shows the cost of items, and skinned/default Satchel Charges can no longer be stacked when merging in the game world. A visual issue with the Thompson causing an artifact to be seen briefly when reloading has been fixed. Pressure Pads can no longer be stacked up to three times, and the Key Lock can no longer create keys when it is locked. The recoil of the Assault Rifle when the Muzzle Break and Silencer are attached has been fixed.

Audio and UI Fixes
Several fixes have been implemented for audio and UI issues. Adjusting audio sliders will now properly affect in-game audio, and various audio bugs have been resolved. Horseback sound effects have also been fixed, and filling up a Water Jug will now stop the sound effect when it is full. Various UI fixes have been implemented, including addressing a bug that caused a softlock when dropping/unequipping Horse Saddlebags when the cursor is in the storage area. Spam canceling the “Trying to Connect” pop-up will no longer break Main Menu input, and the yellow error text will no longer appear when dismounting an impaled Horse. The sleeping bag timer will now update in real-time on the Map, and the “Killed By” information will now display correctly in the Death Panel UI. Various issues with Crafting menus have also been fixed, and bait values for food items are now shown in the game. The “Tacklebox” from the Fisherman mission ‘Tackle The Day’ will now spawn at the correct location, and the Tech Tree in the Work Bench will now show the correct stats. A bug that caused stats shown in the crafting menu to not update properly when changing to a different item has also been resolved. Other UI fixes include the controller layout page in Settings no longer having a missing background overlay, the Horse iconography being fixed when changing seats/Auto-moving, and the tool secondary button no longer turning off Gallop Stance. Passengers on Double Saddle can no longer toggle the Gallop UI icon, and the Harvest text will no longer flicker when the player is healing. The Hostile Timer and icon will no longer be visible when the HUD is turned off, and a bug causing UI to overlap when adjusting weapon attachments has been fixed. Melee Weapons and Tools will now display stats in the Tech Tree UI, and the Hostile Timer will no longer be missing.

Other Changes
Several other changes and fixes have been made to the game. A hang that could occur when holding a deployable and looking at a water purifier has been fixed, and a null reference check on motor boats fuel has also been resolved. A possible crash in a rare biome has been addressed, and various graphical fixes for visuals, textures, and rendering in the game have been implemented. Trophy/Achievement adjustments have been made, and setting skips in the options menu will now update accordingly to its dependent setting. Multiple visual issues causing items and places to become invisible have also been fixed, along with various collision issues. Bugs causing servers to freeze have been addressed, and FPS fixes have been implemented in the Skin Store. The Boost Multiply will now remain when default settings are applied.
