Saudi Arabia is the most advanced region in the maritime navigation communication index

Saudi Arabia has made progress in the maritime navigation network connectivity indicator with global shipping companies within the (UNCTAD) report for the third quarter of 2021 published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, where achieved (70.68) points for being the highest advanced regional country in the index, as part of the Kingdom’s efforts to increase its competitiveness and strengthen its international presence in the shipping sector in the region.

The Kingdom’s rise on the global index comes despite the challenges the world faced due to the Corona pandemic, which resulted in an increase in shipping costs, and this progress is directly due in light of the partnerships held by the Authority general of ports with operators and of the main international shipping companies, as well as the government sector, an important role in this, represented by the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, and by the General Directorate of the Border Guards, which contributes to the development of the Kingdom’s seaports, supporting their competitiveness, developing infrastructures, as well as expanding maritime transport lines, improving procedures in services operational and logistical, in order to achieve the objectives of the national strategy for transport and logistics services, through programs and initiatives to strengthen the leadership of the Kingdom in the region and to help transform it in a global logistics center.

Mawani had recently launched 5 shipping companies; This has helped to increase the number of movements of the total volume of containers by 116% to reach 418,462 TEU, since the beginning of questyear until the end of September 2021.

The President of the General Ports Authority, Omar bin Talal Hariri, explained that growth continues and the performance stable and strong of the Kingdom in the UNCTAD index from 2019 to today; It confirms its distinguished position as a country with a growing link with the world and the global economy, and through the continuous development of infrastructures and the enhancement of operational capabilities, in how much the Saudi ports have been in able to develop maritime communication routes and significantly improve the competitiveness of the Kingdom.

He said: We are proud of the authority’s contribution to these achievements and efforts will be intensified to achieve more successes aspired by the Kingdom’s ambitious leadership, with the following of His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ‘General Authority of Ports, engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, as part of the national strategy for transport and logistics, To realize the vision of the Kingdom 2030.

Hariri added: “The work continues in earnest to enable the regulatory and business environment for the port sector, constantly increasing its efficiency and reliability, as well as promoting successful partnerships between the public and private sectors and encouraging a culture of innovation, based on the Kingdom’s strategic position, at the center of three continents, as part of the efforts of the General Ports Authority to contribute to the development of a sustainable and prosperous maritime sector to consolidate the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center and enable its development economic and ambitions.

The global indicator, which measures the level of interconnection of the ports of the countries of the world, aims at With networks of shipping companies every quarterHelping countries identify challenges and find opportunities to develop and improve their logistics performance.

The connection index of the maritime navigation network with Global Shipping Lines includes a series of sub-indicators; In particular: the number of scheduled visits of ships to the country within a week, the capacity of the ships in Unit standard, in addition to the number of regular service routes provided by shipping companies to and from the country.

Interestingly, the Kingdom is witnessing continued growth in the shipping industry, taking advantage of the strategic geographic elements that make it the region’s main trading port, in as it oversees the most important water crossings, the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf, and is located in the heart of the three continents of the world, Asia, Europe and Africa.
